EMDR is the acronym for the therapeutic treatment of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, designed to provide relief from intrusive trauma, distressing events, or images. It is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to relieve stress associated with adverse life experiences. Many counselors are encouraged by the opportunity this treatment creates for individual struggling with trauma and PTSD. During an EMDR therapy session, a client will revisit powerful moments in brief doses while the counselor directs eye movements
EMDR is useful because it has the potential to lessen the emotional toll upsetting events hold in the present. Over time, this technique may reduce the impact of difficult memories or harmful beliefs.
Brainspotting (BSP) is a new type of counseling developed in cooperation with trauma survivors, including first respondents from 9/11, by David Grand, Ph.D.
Grand was trained in EMDR, an efficient treatment for trauma. Based on his research, he adapted the protocol to Brainspotting. Various treatments for mental health issues, including trauma, anxiety, mental blockages, physical pain, and negative feelings, are effective.
